Citing LiveScience, the typical rash associated with monkey pox begins to appear. This rash usually progresses through several stages, initially appearing as patches of discolored skin, then bumps, then blisters and finally large pimples filled with pus, finally, these skin lesions scab and fall out.
Historically, monkeypox rashes tended to appear around the face and in the oral cavity, first, and then may progress to the extremities, including the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. However, some recent cases of monkeypox in the US have deviated from this pattern, for example the symptoms of monkeypox in the anus.
But not only that, there are also unusual symptoms that appear in monkeypox sufferers. Many AS patients develop a rash that initially appears around the genitals and anus, as well as the tissues that line the mouth.
In some patients, this rash causes pain in the anus and rectum, rectal bleeding, painful inflammation of the lining of the rectum (proctitis) and a sensation of having to defecate when the bowel is empty (tenesmus).
Symptoms including monkeypox symptoms in the anus are not included in the typical description of monkeypox.
"It is now clear that there is an unusual situation, which means even the virus is behaving in an unusual way from how it usually behaved in the past," said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), at a briefing, according to NBC News.
"Anyone, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation, can catch and spread monkeypox. However, in this outbreak, many of the cases reported in the United States were among gay, bisexual, or other men who have sex with men," he said.
For this reason, health agencies have stressed that men who have sex with men should be aware that the virus can spread on their social networks.
